MDMS implementation notice:
NTA has recently announced a notice regarding MDMS(Mobile Device Management System). As per notice mobile phones that are imported to Nepal are mostly coming via illegal networks. In order to stop this illegal import and selling of mobile phones in a gray market and also to make tracking of lost mobile more convenient NTA has made this announcement. All mobiles that are sold or bought from Sep 15 2022 onwards shall be registered in NTA. To check the status you can visit https://mdms.nta.gov.np/
NTA has requested everyone to check their device whether registered or not before purchasing the mobile.
How to check MDMS registration?
To check whether your mobile is registered or not do the following steps:
- Open phone app
- Type *#06# to get the IMEI number(15-digit unique number)
- Then use that number on the NTA website where it says “आफ्नो मोबाईलको IMEI खोज्नुहोस
This MDMS implementation was discussed a long time ago but was not effectively implemented. The dominance of the gray market was always there. The only caveat of purchasing a mobile from the gray market was the lack of warranty and insurance. So people generally would go for a cheaper option than expensive authorized dealers.
